Sales of the standard iPhone 17, the base model variant, were much higher than the sales of its corresponding iPhone 16, it said, adding that China sales of the model nearly doubled.The research firm attributed the better performance to an improved display, more storage and an upgraded A19 chip. Senior analyst Ivan Lam reportedly said, “Consumers are resonating with the base model iPhone 17 on improved specs and upgrades.” He also noted that momentum continued to be good in October.&nbsp;The high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max model experienced significant strength, primarily in the U.S., driven by long-pending upgrades.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Why It’s Important For Apple</h2>Strong iPhone sales data is vital for Apple to outperform relative to expectations. In the third quarter that ended in June 2025, Apple generated 47% of its total revenue from iPhone. The Americas region accounted for 44% of the total sales and the Greater China region contributed 16%.If the early iPhone strength carries over into the December quarter, it bodes well for Apple. Offsetting some of the investor worries, Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday pledged to boost the company’s investment in China, which continues to remain one of its primary supply bases and end markets despite the U.S.-China standoff.&nbsp;Citing a Weibo post by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Bloomberg&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-15/apple-s-cook-vows-to-boost-chinese-investment-during-visit?srnd=phx-technology">reported</a> that Cook met with Li Lecheng, the country’s IT minister, on Wednesday. While Li reportedly called on Apple to work closely with local suppliers, the Apple chief thanked China for its support and committed to boosting cooperation with the&nbsp;country.&nbsp;“The two sides discussed Apple's business development in China and strengthening cooperation in the electronic information sector. Zhong Zhihong, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also attended the meeting,” the social media post by the ministry read.Cook reportedly posted on Weibo that he met Labubu-creator Kasing Lung and visited an Apple store in Shanghai.  China’s Industry and IT Minister Li Lecheng reportedly called on Apple to work closely with local suppliers.

Apple, Inc. (AAPL) is reportedly eyeing expansion of manufacturing operations in the Southeast Asian nation of Vietnam amid the geopolitical tensions that have strained its supply chain.&nbsp;The tech giant’s expansion plan is part of its smart home market foray and efforts to reduce its reliance on China, according to a Bloomberg report, citing people familiar with the matter. The company plans to manufacture three smart home devices in Vietnam over the next couple of years, including indoor security cameras, a display for controlling appliances and acting as a house command hub, and an advanced tabletop robot. The indoor security cameras and the display are scheduled for launch in 2026, and the robot is expected to be unveiled in 2027.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AAPL">Apple stock</a> has been an underperformer among its megacap tech peers amid geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties, as well as its own lag in introducing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The stock has lost nearly a percent year-to-date. Cupertino is also considering using BYD for manufacturing iPads in Vietnam, the report added.&nbsp; The Tom Cook-led company currently uses Vietnam as a manufacturing base for iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches, Macs and older HomePods.&nbsp;Moving manufacturing to Vietnam, however, will not help Apple skirt Trump tariffs, as exports from the country to the U.S. invite a 20% levy based on the agreement clinched in late July. That said, the U.S. trade standoff with China continues to worsen, with President Donald Trump threatening a 100% rate last week after the Asian nation broadened the purview of its rare earth controls. Apple has also moved manufacturing of most of its U.S.-bound iPhone assembly to India, while it also manufactures some products in Malaysia and Thailand.Delving into the specs of the new home hub, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said it is a 7-inch square display and will come integrated with upgraded Siri, which the company plans to launch in March. The company is reportedly planning two versions of the home hub, one designed as a display mounted on a speaker base and another intended to be hung on a wall. Apple Plans To Make Smart Home Devices In Vietnam, Breaking Tradition Of China-First Manufacturing: Report

OpenAI and Broadcom (AVGO) announced Monday a joint initiative to build and deploy 10 gigawatts of custom AI accelerators.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/AVGO">Broadcom's stock</a> soared more than 11% pre-market following news of the deal and was among the top trending tickers on Stocktwits. Retail sentiment around the company on the platform moved higher within ‘bullish’ territory. Meanwhile, retail sentiment around&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/OPENAI">OpenAI</a>, which is not a publicly listed company, was also in the ‘bullish’ zone, accompanied by ‘high’ levels of chatter.The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement. Analysts had assumed this was the same $10 billion customer partnership that Broadcom announced during its September earnings call. However, Broadcom’s chip president, Charlie Kawwas,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/13/broadcom-mystery-customer-openai.html">told</a> CNBC that is not the case.&nbsp;“I would love to take a $10 billion [purchase order] from my good friend Greg [Brockman],” he said. “He has not given me that PO yet.”Sam Altman, the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, described the partnership as “critical” in building the infrastructure needed to unlock AI’s potential. “Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity,” he said.Altman’s “broader ecosystem of partners” includes Nvidia (NVDA), Oracle (ORCL), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), with whom OpenAI has recently announced fresh partnerships. Apple, Inc. (AAPL) is reportedly making organizational changes to adjust executive roles ahead of COO Jeff Williams' pending departure. The tech giant disclosed in early July that Williams, a longtime executive, would retire in late 2025.&nbsp;A Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, citing people familiar with the matter,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-10/apple-to-move-health-fitness-divisions-to-services-in-reorganization">stated</a> that Apple Services head Eddy Cue will supervise the company’s health and fitness teams.&nbsp; Williams currently oversees the design team, while also leading Apple Watch and Health initiatives, although he has already ceded the COO role to Sabih Khan. He has also transferred the oversight of supply chain operations, AppleCare customer support, and China-related work to Khan.Craig Federighi, Head of Software Engineering, will now oversee the Apple Watch operating system. Both Cue and Federighi are veteran Apple executives, having decades of service at the company.&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AAPL">Apple stock</a> has lagged its mega-cap peers this year, up merely 2%, amid worries that demand for its flagship iPhone will continue to remain lackluster. Following the rumored reorganization, the two teams will be consolidated under Desai, who will then report to Cue.Federighi, who would assume the reins of Apple WatchOS, took over additional responsibility of overseeing the Siri voice assistant and VisionOS earlier this year. Apple’s Hardware Head John Ternus will reportedly be vested with the responsibility of taking care of the Apple Watch hardware engineering.&nbsp;More executive changes are likely at Apple. Bloomberg had reported earlier that the company is looking to hire a replacement for its former AI Head, John Giannandrea.
