Computers are personal,” he said. Public blockchains reveal too much of their users, Hoskinson said. He asked whether people want everyone to see “what you buy, who you talk to,” forever.That problem grew as AI agents continued to proliferate. Personal data was needed for it to be useful, he said. He said he was not comfortable sharing that data with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, or Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic.&nbsp;He called his answer a “night frame,” his personal computing box built on Midnight. It employs three tools. Zero-knowledge proofs verified the validity of an outcome without revealing the details. Multi-party computation allowed multiple parties to compute on data without revealing their inputs. Trusted execution environments ran code in a sealed portion of a chip. Hoskinson summed up the design simply. “What goes in, no one else can see,” he said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Midnight City Opens Soon</h2>Midnight City will be fully operational “in the next few months,” said Hoskinson. It will be a simulated world where AI agents live, trade, and test each other. It already has about 14,000 beta testers, he said. Users will be able to host an agent with its own wallet and identity,” he said. That agent could rent a trading strategy developed by somebody else. Traders who piled into AI chip stocks lost about $33.8 million on crypto exchanges a day earlier. The wipeout hit contracts tied to Micron (MU), SanDisk (SNDK) and SK Hynix (SKHY) one day before the 39th anniversary of the Black Monday crash.<h2 class="st-heading-2">AI Chip Liquidations As Leveraged Longs Get Wiped Out</h2>The losses were seen in perpetual futures, contracts that have no expiration date and follow the price of a stock. Traders kept placing bets even as Wall Street was closed, with exchanges such as Binance and OKX offering around-the-clock trading.A liquidation event occurs when an exchange liquidates a leveraged position that has run out of margin. Most liquidations on Saturday were long positions, or bets on prices rising.&nbsp;Contracts tied to the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares (SOXL) took the biggest hit, CoinGlass said. The fund seeks to deliver three times the daily performance of a chip-stock index. Its contracts saw $13.05 million worth of liquidations over a period of 24 hours. The largest single position liquidated was worth roughly $3.17 million.SOXL's contract was up more than 8.5% on the day, according to CoinGlass data, while Micron and SK Hynix contracts each rose more than 7%. However, all three later rebounded from those lows.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Longs Took Most Losses</h2>SanDisk followed with liquidations worth approximately $11.98 million. Longs accounted for 95% of that. Micron contracts also dropped about $4.45 million, almost all of it from longs. SK Hynix’s contracts lost $3.77 million.&nbsp;CoinGlass data also showed more than 4,000 traders had been liquidated on five chip-linked contracts. Each one reached its liquidation peak in the same hour on Saturday. Binance was responsible for more than 50% of the losses on each contract.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin Sits Near Danger Zone</h2>The chip losses were included in a broader wave of forced selling. Crypto markets have seen about $352.1 million in liquidations during the past 24 hours, a rise of 67% over the past day. The largest single liquidation was a $7.27 million short on Binance’s contract for the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3X Shares (SOXS).Bitcoin is now trading near its next risk zone. According to CoinGlass, it was around $80,996. CoinGlass has $80,862 as Bitcoin’s long “max pain” level in the past 24 hours. That’s just $134 more. The gauge shows where the biggest pile of leveraged bets on one side would be forced to close.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin’s price</a> was down by 0.2% over the past 24 hours. On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment around BTC moved to ‘extremely bearish’ from the ‘bearish’ zone, while chatter around it stayed at ‘low’ levels over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Leveraged Bets Face Risk</h2>At that level, about $46.39 million in long positions would be liquidated, data from CoinGlass showed. The same amount of short positions is close to $82,493, about 1.85% higher than the current price.Ethereum (ETH) had a comparable setup. It was trading around $2,372, or about 0.75% above a long max pain level of around $2,354, according to CoinGlass. Longs sit there, valued at around $25.98 million. Shorts are about $2,451, up about 3.3%.Monday will be the 39th anniversary of Oct. 19, 1987. "But if you're thinking long-term, Ethereum is in a good accumulation zone," Pillows said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Potential Third Red October In A Row</h2>October has rarely been kind to Ethereum, with a median return of just 0.08%, according to CoinGlass&nbsp;data. The token is down 9.91% so far this month, after falling 7.02% last October and 3.4% in October 2024.&nbsp;A red finish would mark Ethereum's first three consecutive months losing streak since it started trading.&nbsp;This year's slide also followed a strong summer, when the token gained 32.53% in August and 8.77% in September. Underneath it, market breadth has deteriorated sharply.Burry said that his bear market ratio, which is the percentage of S&amp;P 500 stocks trading at least 20% below their 10-year highs, stood at 55% on Oct. 6, up from 47% when the index reached a record on Aug. 13.He found only one other instance in the past four decades when the S&amp;P 500 reached a record high while most of its constituents were already in bear markets.“That makes two times in four decades that the market made new highs with most of its stocks in bear markets relative to 10-year rolling highs. 2000 and today,” Burry said.He also highlighted that his Fresh Drawdown Ratio stood at 27% in October, versus 53% at the March 2000 peak. Burry cautioned that today's market has not yet reached the extremes of 2000, but the direction is what concerns him.“If the market keeps going like it is, it could surpass 2000 within months, as broken stocks took a massive stepdown late in the summer, continuing into October,” he said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Just 15 Stocks Hit New Highs, Burry Highlights</h2>Burry's other major warning sign is how narrow the market's leadership has become. Only 15 S&amp;P 500 stocks closed at new highs on Oct. 6, while just 97 were within 10% of a high.At the March 2000 peak, the corresponding figures were also 15 stocks at new highs and 87 within 10%, he said.Burry sees that concentration as evidence that a relatively small group of market leaders is carrying an increasingly fragile index. “This is a very narrow top - so little dirt I could barely fit in my text, and close to as narrow as 2000,” he warned.Burry described the phenomenon visually as a “caldera”, which is a seemingly calm market sitting above layers of increasingly broken stocks.He noted that the median S&amp;P 500 stock is now 22% below its high, compared with 31% in March 2000. Meanwhile, 406 of the index's 503 members were more than 10% below their 10-year highs.Burry argues that the deterioration in breadth is particularly significant because the Bear Market Ratio is rising while the overall index continues to climb.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Burry Sees A Different Kind Of Bear Market</h2>Burry does not necessarily expect a sudden 2000-style collapse and his base case is that market leaders could fall while previously beaten-down stocks recover.In his historical analysis, 2000 was the only major market top where leaders suffered dramatic losses while broken stocks subsequently posted significant gains.“The key stat for me, after all these stats, is the number of new highs and the number of stocks within striking distance - within 10%,” he said.Burry believes that outcome could repeat as the mechanical flows supporting the largest companies lose momentum and fundamental problems become harder to ignore.“All this taken together with the other work I have done, the market will fail in a manner that lifts the median broken stock. This is my base case,” Burry added.He said that failure may not come as a single devastating crash, but rather through a market that “will drift lower, sometimes violently” as fundamental concerns filter into the AI narrative.The biggest warning from Burry is not simply valuation or a potential recession. More capital into the sector could be brought in through increasing adoption of tokenization and increasing attention on crypto, which will benefit Bitcoin as money flows back into the market, he added.Visser saw another chance in December, when many investors closed out their books."That is the time when a lot of people just say, 'I'm done with the year,'" he said. "So go for Bitcoin. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around BTC dropped to ‘extremely bearish’ from the bearish zone, with ‘low’ chatter levels over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Visser Says Bitcoin Outpaces Stocks And Bonds Amid Global Market Turmoil</h2>Visser said Bitcoin has held up while other markets have stalled. “Bitcoin's Sharpe ratio right now over the last four months stands out, and it stands out as the rest of the world is kind of going through this chaos,” he said. The Sharpe ratio compares an asset’s return with its risk.Other measures painted a more mixed picture. Bitcoin’s Sharpe ratio stood at about -0.62 as of October 13, according to Bitbo&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://charts.bitbo.io/sharpe-ratio/">data</a>. That is up from around -1.4 in early August, but still below zero.Visser’s case rested on how Bitcoin compares with other assets. The U.S. has roughly $40 trillion in debt, while interest payments already consume about 21% of federal tax receipts, the firm stated.Higher interest rates can help restrain inflation, but they also increase the government's borrowing costs, potentially widening the deficit and forcing even more borrowing. The firm stated that creates a fiscal-dominance problem, where fiscal pressures increasingly constrain monetary policy.“In our view, no matter what the Fed does, it will likely increase inflation due to the massive deficits we are running. This effectively removes the Fed as the primary driver of monetary policy in exchange for the Treasury,” IO Fund added.The firm explained that a stronger dollar can tighten global liquidity because foreign governments and companies with dollar-denominated debt need more of their local currencies to service those obligations.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Why Stocks Could Still Win</h2>Despite the bond-market turmoil, IO Fund believes the U.S. economy remains strong enough to prevent a sustained bear market in equities.The firm pointed to domestic private demand, which grew at a 9.5% annualized rate in the second quarter (Q2). Roughly half of that growth was real, at 4.6% after inflation, according to the report, which noted that consumer spending, not AI-related business investment, was the biggest contributor to Q2 economic growth.Consumer spending's contribution to real GDP growth jumped from 0.5 percentage points in Q1 to 2.5 percentage points in Q2, while business investment contributed 1.2 percentage points, according to IO Fund. It added that this strength could give equities the cushion they need even as higher yields increase the discount rate applied to future earnings.“It is unlikely to see the start of a meaningful bear market in equities when growth is this robust,” the firm added.IO Fund sees the current environment less as the beginning of a prolonged stock-market downturn and more as a correction within a broader secular bull market. He said that the difference was who runs it. “The actual operators of the validation infrastructure are known. They’re not anonymous,” Allaire said.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Circle Wants Decentralization, But Not Without Rules</h2>Those operators were chosen based on the operating and legal commitments they made. Allaire said the world’s financial institutions would want those commitments before they relied on the network. “It is not fully decentralized,” he said. “We’re trying to find the happy middle.” Circle launched the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/circle-launches-arc-with-black-rock-and-visa-a-day-after-the-senate-blocked-clarity-act/cZtYnaBRBPi">Arc mainnet</a> in September.&nbsp;According to Allaire, “USDC is [not] centralized. It’s a centralized issuer,” meaning it isn’t decentralized like Bitcoin (BTC). However, the stablecoin does run on the principles of decentralization. For instance, USDC can be transferred across supported blockchains without having to pass through Circle’s own payment system every time.Allaire said that to plug into the real-world financial system, it had to be built that way. “I want the main finance system running on this.”&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/CRCL">Circle stock</a> fell over 5% on Friday. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around CRCL remained in the ‘bearish’ zone, while chatter stayed at ‘low’ levels over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Higher Bank Rates Pose a Bigger Threat To USDC Than USDT, BIS Study Finds</h2>Allaire’s comments came just days after a Bank for International Settlements&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bis.org/publications/working-paper-1382-are-stablecoins-and-bank-deposits-substitutes.pdf">study</a> found that higher bank deposit rates weighed more on USDC’s growth than on Tether’s USDT.&nbsp;The paper examined weekly U.S. data from January 2019 to June 2025, and found that higher deposit rates predicted slower stablecoin growth. The effect was “stronger for USDC than for USDT, consistent with the former’s closer ties to U.S. depositors,” the paper said.The paper estimated that a 1-basis-point rise in deposit rates was associated with a 4.8 percentage points less cumulative, USDC growth over 10 weeks, while USDT fell only 1.9%.It linked the gap to USDC’s wider use among US institutional and decentralized finance (DeFi) users and said USDT was mostly used offshore and in developing economies.The paper also found that banks passed on more of the Fed’s moves to depositors once the Fed funds rate rose above about 3%. The Federal Reserve raised its target range to 3.75% to 4.00% last month, putting rates above that level. Stablecoin growth “slows but does not necessarily reverse,” the authors wrote.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Second Lever</h2>The paper said that “banks retain some influence over the pace of that adoption through deposit pricing.” They called whether issuers may pay holders “a second lever.”That question sat at the center of the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/cZX1ssLRe1v">CLARITY Act</a>, the crypto market structure bill, which stalled in the Senate. But he believes those expectations go too far, particularly as markets contend with weakness in interest-rate-sensitive parts of the economy and growing concerns around the AI trade.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Markets May Be Overpricing Fed Rate Hikes, Says El-Erian</h2>El-Erian said markets have correctly assigned a relatively low probability to a rate hike at the Fed's October meeting, with the odds below 20%, while putting the probability of a December hike at nearly 90%."I think that's right. I think they capture well what is going to happen," El-Erian said of those market expectations. His bigger disagreement is with what investors expect after December.According to the CME FedWatch&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>, the odds of a 25 basis point rate hike in October stood at 15.5% at the time of writing."The market is pricing in total two and a half hikes by the middle of next year, three by September. I think that's too much," he said.El-Erian argued that the market may be underestimating the economic consequences of higher interest rates, particularly in areas that are more sensitive to borrowing costs. He also pointed to the possibility that continued weakness in technology stocks could create a broader drag."I don't think we're going to get three hikes. But I understand why the market thinks we are," El-Erian said.The comments come amid a stronger-than-expected inflation print. September's CPI rose 0.6% from the prior month, putting the annual rate at 3.7%, higher than the expected 3.6%, per a Dow Jones consensus estimate,&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar">according</a> to MarketWatch.El-Erian said the Fed cannot simply dismiss the recent inflation readings, even as the prospect of a near-term rate increase appears increasingly unlikely.<h2 class="st-heading-2">AI Sell-Off Could Spill Into The Broader Economy, El-Erian Warns</h2>El-Erian also pushed back against the idea that weakness in technology stocks would simply trigger a rotation into other parts of the market.He said investors are beginning to recognize that the AI trade depends on more than continued technological breakthroughs. Wider adoption and the ability to manage unintended consequences will also determine whether the investment boom can continue at its current pace."The AI trade depends not just on invention, which is going really well, but it also depends on broad dissemination, adoption and being able to risk mitigate the unintended consequences," El-Erian said.Those factors, he argued, are not entirely within the control of technology companies. "The market has started to realize it's tougher," he said.El-Erian also warned that a technology sell-off could have consequences well beyond technology stocks. Tech has attracted significant domestic and international capital, meaning a sustained decline could create both an economic and market-related effect."What I don't quite understand is the rotation trade that everybody is advocating what I call the one minus X. If tech does badly, that is going to impact non-tech for two reasons,” he said.The first is the potential economic impact of weaker technology activity. Cardano is a blockchain platform built on academic research that enables smart contracts and decentralized applications while using significantly less energy than traditional cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.   What sets Cardano apart is its methodical, research-driven approach — every major feature is peer-reviewed by scientists and cryptographers before being added to the network. This careful process aims to create a more secure and stable foundation compared to platforms that prioritize speed over thorough testing. The platform's native cryptocurrency, ADA, is used to send money, pay transaction fees, and participate in network governance.  Cardano uses a proof-of-stake system to process transactions, which works differently from Bitcoin's mining approach. Instead of competing to solve complex puzzles, users can "stake" their ADA — essentially locking it up temporarily — to become validators who verify transactions. The system selects validators based on how much ADA they've staked and for how long, then rewards them with additional ADA for their participation. This approach uses far less energy than traditional mining while keeping the network secure. The platform also features a two-layer design that separates basic payment transactions from smart contract operations, allowing each function to be optimized independently for better performance.   ADA holders can earn staking rewards by locking up their tokens to help secure the network, vote on proposed changes to the platform, and use ADA for international money transfers with lower fees than traditional services.  Cardano was founded in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, who previously helped create Ethereum. Hoskinson leads Input Output Global (IOG), the technology company that builds and maintains Cardano's core software. The ecosystem operates through three organizations: IOG handles technical development, the Cardano Foundation promotes adoption and standardization, and Emurgo helps businesses integrate blockchain technology into their operations. This structure distributes responsibilities across multiple groups rather than concentrating control in a single entity.   In February 2025, major asset manager Grayscale Investments filed to create an exchange-traded fund (ETF) for Cardano with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which would allow traditional investors to buy ADA through their regular brokerage accounts without needing to set up cryptocurrency wallets.

Bulls point to the Mastercard partnership and other adoption developments, while skeptics describe the rebounds as short-lived and expect more weakness.

Neon EVM is the EVM on Solana (currently on devnet), which enables Ethereum-based applications to have access to Solana’s scalability and liquidity without any changes to their codebase. Neon EVM is a smart contract on Solana. Solana is a fast-growing blockchain, Neon EVMs performance has been tested through multiple use cases, and the platform now includes the infrastructure and capabilities to support production level development. Notable Ethereum-based projects starting to build on Neon include Curve and Sobal (Balancer friendly fork). Neon EVM has over 200 projects in its pipeline committed to launching shortly after the launch of mainnet, including blue-chip DeFi protocols, wallets, bridges, fiat on/off ramps, infrastructure, DAO tooling, etc. The focus in the early stages will be providing the infrastructure and technical dependencies needed for a breadth of use cases to expand from EVM chains to Solana. Looking beyond mainnet, the plan is to develop interoperability with Solana smart contracts, full ecosystem compatibility, integration with additional major Ethereum tools and services, EVM support for Saga and an early grants program.
