Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

Another Key South Korean Trade Official To Visit US After Hyundai Plant Detention Row

South Korea’s exports grew for most of August, despite the heavy tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which has upended global trade.According to a Bloomberg News report, citing customs data, the value of shipments gained 7.6% in the first 20 days of this month, compared with a 5.8% rise for the whole month of July. South Korean firms such as Samsung Electronics have also benefited from the exemption granted to smartphones and other consumer electronics goods by the Trump administration.However, other sectoral tariffs, such as autos and steel, continued to weigh in on exports. Trump To Meet South Korean President This Month With Focus On Defense Spending, North Korea

The summit will take place weeks after South Korea managed to seal a trade deal that reduced U.S. tariffs to 15% from 25% imposed by Trump.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Vietnamese Communist Party chief To Lam agreed Monday to accelerate cooperation and nearly double annual trade to $150 billion by 2030, part of a broader push to counter the impact of newly imposed U.S. tariffs.At a joint press event in Seoul, Lee referred to Vietnam as “a very important neighboring country” in both trade and security, while Lam stated that expanding military ties could help strengthen regional stability, according to Bloomberg.Vietnam is South Korea's biggest investment target and its third-largest trading partner. As of May, there are 94 billion dollars of registered projects in Vietnam. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached $81.5 billion last year, an increase of 7.3% over 2023.Both nations recently reached separate trade deals with the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s tariff plan.&nbsp;South Korea&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/cryptocurrency/trump-secures-full-and-complete-trade-deal-with-south-korea/chohs8MR5Cn">secured a 15% levy</a> after avoiding a potential 25% rate from August and agreed to measures, including&nbsp;granting Washington access to $350 billion in U.S.-controlled investments, purchasing $100 billion in American LNG and energy products, and further opening its markets to U.S. goods.&nbsp; Vietnam’s deal set a 20% tariff on its exports&nbsp;to the U.S.Lee said the deal removes the uncertainty of exports and levels the playing field,&nbsp;allowing South Korean companies to compete on an equal footing with major countries.
