Dogecoin is an open-source digital currency based on the "Doge" meme that functions as a peer-to-peer medium for fast payments and digital tipping. Unlike projects backed by corporate entities, its value is driven by a global community, and the project is managed by a decentralized group of volunteers and the non-profit Dogecoin Foundation rather than a formal company.  Originally created in 2013 by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer as a market parody, the project held no public sale or venture capital rounds. The network operates as a fork of LuckyCoin, which itself was a fork of Litecoin, using a proof of work consensus mechanism. It employs the Scrypt algorithm to ensure the mining process remains fast and efficient, with new blocks processed every 60 seconds. A unique technical feature is its use of merged mining, allowing miners to secure Dogecoin simultaneously with other Scrypt-based networks like Litecoin.  To keep transaction fees low and the network running indefinitely, Dogecoin features an uncapped supply where new coins are added forever. In a major regulatory milestone in March 2026, a joint SEC and CFTC framework officially classified Dogecoin as a digital commodity, placing it in the same asset category as gold or oil.

Core infra sectors record four-month high growth at 3.7% in December

New Delhi: India’s eight key infrastructure sectors registered a four-month high growth rate of 3.7 per cent in December last year, driven by a jump in the output of fertiliser and cement, according to official data released on Tuesday. However, the performance of these eight sectors slowed on a year-on-year basis, the data showed. In December 2024, the sectors’ output grew by 5.1 per cent. It was 2.1 per cent in November last year. Crude oil, natural gas, and refinery products’ production have recorded a negative growth during the month under review. Fertiliser and cement output grew by 4.1 per cent and 13.5 per cent, respectively. The growth rate in the output of coal, steel, and electricity moderated to 3.6 per cent, 6.9 per cent, and 5.3 per cent in December 2025. Power generation, however, recorded a sequential jump in output, as it had contracted by 1.5 per cent in November. During the April-December period of this fiscal, the output of these sectors grew by 2.6 per cent against 4.5 per cent recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

New Delhi, Nov 25 : The electricity demand is set to grow 1.5–2 per cent in FY26 down from the earlier estimate of 4–4.5 per cent, due to early monsoon and high base effect, a report said on Tuesday. The forecast from the ratings agency ICRA also cited that India doubled its power capacity addition in H1 FY25 to 25.7 GW, led by renewables, and is on track for 45-50 GW this fiscal year. India’s electricity demand fell by 3 per cent YoY in the first 10 days of November 2025, according to Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) data. "The early and prolonged monsoon and high base effect have kept demand growth muted throughout FY2026, with overall flat growth for the first seven months. Reflecting this slowdown, the full-year demand growth forecast has been revised, with expectations of some seasonal recovery during winter," said Ankit Jain, Vice President & Co Group Head - Corporate Ratings, ICRA Ltd. The growth in India's power capacity addition was primarily driven by the renewable energy (RE) segment, supported by developers rushing to commission projects before the expiry of the complete waiver on transmission charges on June 30, 2025.

India poised to sharply cut Russian oil imports after sanctions, sources say

NEW DELHI: Indian refiners are poised to sharply curtail imports of Russian oil to comply with new U.S. sanctions on two top Russian producers, industry sources said on Thursday, potentially removing a major hurdle to a trade deal with the United States. The change comes as India faces punishing 50% tariffs on its exports to the U.S. - with half of those duties in retaliation for Russian oil purchases - and negotiates a potential trade deal that could bring those tariffs in line with Asian peers in exchange for winding down crude imports from Moscow. India has emerged as the biggest buyer of discounted seaborne Russian crude in the aftermath of Moscow’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, importing about 1.7 million barrels per day in the first nine months of this year. The U.S. sanctions target Lukoil and Rosneft Russia’s two biggest oil producers. Privately-owned Reliance Industries the top Indian buyer of Russian crude, plans to reduce or cease imports of Russian oil, including halting purchases under its large long-term deal with Rosneft, people familiar with the matter said. “Recalibration of Russian oil imports is ongoing and Reliance will be fully aligned to GOI (Government of India) guidelines,” a Reliance spokesman said in response to a query on whether the company plans to cut its crude imports from Russia.
