$NVS Novartis is paying Abogen $575 million upfront for global rights to ABO2203, an experimental mRNA therapy, with up to $7.2 billion in milestones behind it (Reuters, Friday). The structure is the read. The upfront is only about 7.4% of the $7.8 billion headline. That matters because Novartis is under dealmaking scrutiny: two late-stage failures disclosed in September wiped nearly $30 billion off its market value, and a major shareholder wants tighter board oversight of future acquisitions. The asset is differentiated. ABO2203 is an mRNA-encoded CD19xCD3 T-cell engager designed to reset B cells in autoimmune disease. The mRNA directs the body's own production of the engagers instead of manufacturing them as biologics (PharmExec). Gillian Hollenstein of Point Capital Navigator Fund: "better risk profile, as they pay a smaller amount upfront to secure the rights." Her caveat: Novartis "does need some later stage deals with a higher level of predictability."

USD/CHF is testing 0.8300, the highest since late May, and the franc is trading like a funding currency. Markets price a 70% chance of a Fed hike on Oct 28. The SNB held at 0% on Sept 24 while the Fed, ECB, and BOJ tightened. U.S. 10-year yields at 5.20% against Swiss bonds at 0.65% make the carry obvious. Warsh already delivered the first hike in over three years. The SNB is signaling intervention against franc strength. Pharma is about half of Swiss exports to the U.S., with $NVS and Roche pledging $73B of U.S. investment. Hormuz talks are the risk, not the bid. #USDCHF #Forex #Fed #SafeHaven
