The moot point is whether this partnership is&nbsp;a substantial “win-win” opportunity or merely a headline-grabbing alignment.At least, investors have taken the news positively,&nbsp;as seen from the&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/DIS">Disney stock</a> rising 2.4% on Thursday.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Disney’s Deal Snippets</h2>-Disney becomes Sora’s first content licensing partner, as part of a three-year contract.-Based on user prompts, Sora can now generate videos, drawing from a set of over 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.-Disney becomes&nbsp;an&nbsp;OpenAI customer (will use OpenAI’s APIs to build new products, tools, and experiences, and deploys ChatGPT to its employees).The highlight of the deal terms is a $1 billion investment Disney has agreed to make in&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/OPENAI">OpenAI</a>, which&nbsp;is currently raking up mammoth losses. It would also receive warrants that can be used to purchase additional equity.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Win-Win Or It So Seems?</h2>Walt Disney CEO Bog Iger was upbeat about the&nbsp;partnership. Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street on Thursday, he&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/12/11/disney-open-ai-iger-altman.html">said</a> the company’s $1 billion equity investment is a “way-in” to AI,&nbsp;and&nbsp;would have a potential long-term impact&nbsp;at Disney.<blockquote>“We want to participate in what Sam is creating, what his team is creating…We think this is a good investment for the company.”</blockquote>For OpenAI, the $1 billion&nbsp;cheque –&nbsp;and future&nbsp;potential investments by Disney –&nbsp;are only a drop in the bucket.&nbsp;It is burdened by massive losses stemming from&nbsp;its&nbsp;huge investment in training AI models and the&nbsp;supporting cloud infrastructure.HSBC estimates that OpenAI is on track to incur losses at least until 2030, according to a Financial Times report.&nbsp;Losses are seen increasing from $17.72 billion in 2025, peaking at over $108 billion in 2029, and narrowing to $77 billion in 2030.<figure class="image"><img style="aspect-ratio:600/371;" src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Open_AI_s_Estimated_Losses_in_Billions_png_aa6dca42de.webp" alt="OpenAI's Estimated Losses (in Billions).png" width="600" height="371"></figure>HSBC data source via Financial TimesIn any case, a partnership and investment with a media group as iconic as Disney is a welcome development for OpenAI.At a time when the media and entertainment industry is undergoing a significant consolidation, this AI trump card&nbsp;with Disney could serve it well in the near term. Theater attendances are yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, and its streaming business&nbsp;faces&nbsp;cutthroat competition. The AI-generated content may help reinvigorate engagement on the company’s streaming platforms.Following&nbsp;Disney’s fourth-quarter results in mid-November, Evercore ISI analyst Kutgun Maral said the&nbsp;company’s&nbsp;FY26 outlook was conservative amid macro uncertainties. Nevertheless, the analyst said Disney's "strong track record and strategic investments position it well for sustained growth.”&nbsp; While lowering Disney’s stock price target by $11 to $130, Rosenblatt Securities flagged concerns about a notable deceleration in domestic parks.In a post on X, the founder of video analytics company Delmondo, Nick Cicero, said Disney had solved two existential problems with the OpenAI deal. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;-Creators making billions of views worth of unauthorized Disney content-Kids are spending more time on YouTube than Disney+Cicero feels the move is about revenue physics, rather than tech:<blockquote>“Sora gives Disney its first scalable way to pull creator-made content into its own premium ecosystem — brand-safe, trackable, legal, and ready for CTV monetization.”&nbsp;</blockquote><h2 class="st-heading-2">Disney Takes On Google</h2>In an interesting turn of events, close on the heels of striking the OpenAI partnership, Disney reportedly sent a “cease-and-desist” letter to Google over the unauthorized use of its work by the latter’s Gemini large-language model (LLM), Axios&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.axios.com/2025/12/11/disney-google-ai">reported,</a> citing a copy of the letter it obtained.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Tracking Disney’s Trajectory</h2>After a forgettable first three months, Disney’s stock took off strongly&nbsp;in May, as the company&nbsp;posted&nbsp;a second-quarter beat and raised its full-year forecast, buoyed by strong performances by its theme parks and streaming business.The euphoria lasted through June before fading, and the stock has been stuck in a sideways trending channel since then.<img src="https://news.stocktwits-cdn.com/Disney_YTD_stock_move_png_5aa9b6df39.webp" alt="Disney YTD stock move.png">Source: KoyfinThe stock is barely (+0.50%) in positive territory for the year.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Retail’s Downbeat</h2>The AI plunge hasn’t made a world of good for Disney,&nbsp;at least in the eyes of retail investors. Meta Rekindles Publisher Partnerships As AI Race Intensifies Against OpenAI, Perplexity, Gemini: Report

According to a report by Axios, Meta has struck several commercial AI data agreements with publishers including USA Today, Fox News, and Le Monde.

It has been four years since the billionaire took the leap of faith toward the concept, reasoning that it was the successor to the mobile internet.If rumors are anything to go by, Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) is mulling cutting 30% of the budget earmarked for the metaverse.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Big Vision That Didn’t Quite Take Off</h2>Announcing the fancy concept at the Meta Connect 2021 conference, the company defined it as a “set of interconnected digital spaces that lets you do things you can’t do in the physical world.” Zuckerberg was so enamored with it that he wanted to abandon the company’s identity as a social-media platform and rebrand it as Meta, which had previously been known as the flagship Facebook app.&nbsp;The metaverse heavily drew on Augmented Reality (AR), a technology that lets users augment their physical environment with digital elements, and Virtual Reality (VR), which gives users an immersive experience of a virtual world. A year from its launch, another buzzword bulldozed its way into the tech world, smothering Zuckerberg’s new fad. But the metaverse had its inherent pitfalls, keeping the technology from taking off in a big way. When asked about Meta’s metaverse at the 2022 WSJ TechLive conference, Microsoft Gaming Head Phil&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yl0cW4t8kE&amp;t=72s">said</a> it’s a “poorly built video game.”The launch of OpenAI’s large language model (LLM), ChatGPT, in late 2022, set off the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, spawning an ecosystem of players, both builders and consumers, around it.&nbsp;According to Wedbush’s Daniel Ives, the AI revolution is here to stay despite all doomsday talks. In a recent note, the analyst called AI the fourth industrial revolution and said the “tech cap-ex supercycle” will drive it over the next few years. He sees big-tech capital expenditure on technology at $500 billion to $600 billion in 2026.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/META">Meta’s stock</a> has begun to turn the corner after the ravages seen since it hit a peak in mid-August as the broader market shook off AI bubble fears and set its eyes on a potential rate cut in December.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Reality Labs’ Dismal Showing</h2>Reality Labs, Meta’s research arm for AR/VR hardware and software, emerged from the company’s push into immersive technologies and was built around Oculus VR, which Meta acquired in 2014 for $2 billion in cash and stock. Oculus is the progenitor of today’s Quest headsets. According to a CNBC report, Replit plans to integrate more of Google’s AI models and provide AI-powered coding solutions for enterprise clients.

The <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/MAGS">Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS)</a>, considered a proxy for the performance of seven megacap names, has advanced nearly 23% this year.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Meta Attractively Valued</h2>The relative stock underperformance has rendered the social media giant's valuation attractive vis-à-vis its Mag 7 peers and the S&amp;P 500. Trump was again blamed for Meta's predicament, as his "Big Beautiful Bill Act" required the company to record a hefty $16 billion tax provision. But the saving grace is the company's reassurance that its tax bill will be significantly lower for the rest of the year and also in the future.Meta investors were also spooked by management's commentary on higher capital expenditures. Co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, however, painted a rosy picture of the company's Superintelligence Labs, a division set up earlier this year that brings all its AI efforts under one roof, with the mandate to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI).Rubbing salt to the wound, fund managers and skeptics began calling for an AI bubble burst and for accounting irregularities by hyperscalers to window-dress their profits.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Will Meta Get Back In Favor?</h2>Barring any macroeconomic setback or a marketwide correction, the odds of the stock returning to its heyday are high. It set a fresh peak (intraday) of $796.25 on Aug. 15, and is down about 20% since then. According to Koyfin, analysts' average price target for META is $841.27 —&nbsp;which implies that the stock is trading at a 31% discount from that mark.As recently as Tuesday, Evercore ISI <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://in.investing.com/news/analyst-ratings/evercore-isi-reiterates-meta-stock-outperform-rating-sees-whatsapp-as-40b-business-by-2030-93CH-5132892">maintained</a> an 'Outperform' rating on Meta stock and its $875 price target, according to Investing.com. The optimism is based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation, as the firm views the Instagram business as a $40 billion business by 2030, generating $20 billion in operating income and $7.15 in earnings per share.According to the firm, Meta is pursuing AI leadership from a "Clear Position of Strength," buoyed by a robust online advertising market, strong user and engagement growth, increasing monetization effectiveness, and additional growth opportunities in core Meta products like Threads, Meta AI, and Facebook Marketplace.But retail investors have turned wary. Meta Has Become The Mag Seven’s Cheapest Bet Despite AI Push — But Can Zuckerberg Flip The Market’s Mood?

Munster &amp; his team ran a side-by-side test, using 50 prompts. “Across the prompts, Meta AI on the Display understood the request about 90% of the time, and I was satisfied with its answers only around half the time,”&nbsp; the tech analyst said.“ChatGPT, using its video model, understood 100% of the prompts and delivered satisfactory responses 98% of the time.”Munster also said Meta AI struggled not only with edge use cases but also with basic comprehension, casting doubt on its broader usefulness in everyday tasks. The one bright spot for Meta AI was foreign language translation, he said.According to Munster, Meta’s bet that the AI on users’ faces will be the next computing platform will only work if the assistant is easy to invoke, clearly grounded in what you’re seeing, and specific enough to deliver actionable answers. “Our follow-up testing reinforces that Meta isn’t there yet.”Meta’s AI glasses with Display have a starting price of $799.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Alibaba Threat</h2>The Chinese company launched new Quark AI Glasses series—three stylish variants of the flagship dual-display S1 and three sleek versions of the camera-first G1, available in multiple frame colors and lens options. ‘I’m Disappointed,’ Says Munster, As Meta’s AI Display Glass Lags Behind ChatGPT On iPhone — Alibaba’s Debut Deepens The Challenge 

Meta, despite its concerted efforts to deploy AI across services and hardware products, may not have gotten a head start with its latest AI Glass offerings.

(NFLX) experienced a service outage late Wednesday, coinciding with the premiere of the highly anticipated first volume of Stranger Things' fifth season.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Tech Plays Spoilsport?</h2>According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, the first outage was reported at 7 p.m. ET, and incidents peaked around 8 p.m. ET before trickling down. Of the reported incidents, 79% were related to video streaming. About 19% complained of issues with the website and 3% reported problems with search.The outage appears to have affected services worldwide.Netflix has scheduled the release of the fifth and final season of the series in three parts: Volume 1, comprising 4 episodes, on Nov. 26; Volume 2, comprising 3 episodes, on Dec. 25; and the finale on New Year’s Eve. Each episode is scheduled to release at 8 p.m. ET.Netflix&nbsp;did not immediately respond to Stocktwits’ inquiry seeking confirmation of the outage.According to a MarketWatch&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/stranger-things-has-made-at-least-1-billion-for-netflix-already-now-season-5-could-deliver-another-200-million-b8827337">report</a>, citing Parrot Analytics, the Stranger Things TV show has already generated at least $1 billion in revenue for the streaming giant since 2020. The report also stated that Netflix may have spent $60 million per episode on the fifth season, bringing the overall spend to about $400 million, making it one of the most expensive TV show productions and rivaling the budgets of blockbuster films.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Social Media Reacts</h2>The outage did not go down well with social media users, who had a field day flooding the internet with comments and memes.
