The 50 mark separates growth from contraction and extends the current period of growth that began in January 2023.“This was largely driven by more stable domestic demand and a recovery in foreign demand. At the same time, service sector businesses remained optimistic about the future, with overall confidence the joint-highest since March,” Yao Yu, the founder at RatingDog, said.The Chinese economy has struggled to gather momentum after the pandemic, hurt by a property market slowdown and a dip in consumer sentiment. China’s industrial profits declined again in July, but at a significantly slower pace compared to earlier months, indicating the impact of Beijing’s measures against price wars.According to National Bureau of Statistics data, the profit fell 1.5% in July compared to the same period a year earlier. This compares to a 4.3% fall in June and a 9.1% slip in May.Till July, the total profits of industrial enterprises fell 1.7%, compared with the first seven months of last year. The declines were led by the mining industry, which logged a year-over-year decrease of 31.6%, primarily due to a plunge in coal earnings amid concerns about oversupply, and strong growth in renewable energy capacity.The country’s manufacturing industry grew by 4.8% over the same period, led by a 11.7% increase in the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry.The figures released on Wednesday suggest that China’s efforts to combat unsustainable price levels may be having an impact. China’s Factory Profits Fall Again — But Decline Slows After Beijing’s Anti-Price War Push Takes Hold

Till July, the total profits of industrial enterprises fell 1.7%, compared with the first seven months of last year.

China's retail sales and industrial output in July missed analysts' estimates, according to government data published on Friday, signaling continued weakness in the economy.The weak indicators underscore the impact of uncertainty&nbsp;stemming from U.S. tariffs, which compounds the structural weaknesses that have plagued China's economy in recent years.Last month, retail sales rose 3.7% year-on-year, missing analysts' estimates for a 4.6% growth in a Reuters poll and slowing from June's 4.8% growth.Industrial output rose 5.7%, its weakest level since November last year, and weaker than analysts' expectations for a 5.9% rise.Meanwhile, fixed-asset investment grew 1.6% in the January to July period, also below economists' forecasts for a 2.7% increase and a&nbsp;slowdown.China's National Bureau of Statistics, which published the data, noted that the weak numbers are due to "ongoing challenges from the complex and unpredictable external environment" as well as extreme weather.High temperatures, heavy rains, and flooding affected several parts of the country last month, curbing a range of business activities.In recent years, private investment and consumer spending&nbsp;have broadly fallen in the country, with particularly acute weakness in the property market.In response, China has cut interest rates, recapitalized local banks, and implemented several programs, which also include monetary benefits, to spur the local industry and household consumption.On the tariffs front, the U.S. and China have arrived at a temporary truce and lowered their soon-to-be-implemented tariff duties, pending a final agreement. This compares with the economists’ estimate of 49.7, according to a Reuters News report. A figure below 50 signifies contraction in activity.Official data showed the PMI of large enterprises slipped 0.9 points to 50.3, while small enterprises' activity also slipped. The new order index slowed to 49.4, down 0.8 points from June, suggesting a decline in manufacturing demand.Retail sentiment on Stocktwits for the <a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FXI">iShares China Large-Cap ETF</a> (FXI) remained in the ‘bullish’ territory at the time of writing.The weak economic data followed Beijing's revelation that Chinese ports had processed the lowest amount of goods in three months, as of last week, indicating that the export-driven boom related to the frontloading of shipments may be coming to a halt.NBS statistician Zhao Qinghe attributed the decline in PMI to heavy rains, high temperatures, flooding in some regions, and seasonally weak demand. By industry, business activity in the construction industry slipped 2.2 points to 50.6, while business activity for the services sector also slipped by 0.1 point.Aided by a trade truce between China and the U.S., Asia’s largest economy had grown by 5.2% in the second quarter, which topped expectations and led to the revision of forecasts for the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth. U.S. and Chinese officials are looking to extend the tariff pause even further, boosting the competitiveness of Chinese exports.However, Chinese policymakers may still need to step in to bolster the economy to boost domestic consumption.
