The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools.  Zcash was created by a group of scientists in 2013 who initially proposed Zerocoin as a privacy extension to Bitcoin before building a standalone protocol. The ecosystem operates with a self-funded development model where block rewards support independent teams through the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a new Coinholder-Controlled Fund.

Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

Indian company Paradeep Phosphates secures 1.6 million tonnes supply from OCP

Indian company Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL) has secured a major long-term supply agreement with Morocco’s OCP, locking in 1.6 million tonnes of rock phosphate, according to Indian media outlet Business Standard. “OCP in Morocco primarily controls over 70 per cent of the known rock reserves in the world. So they are a solid partner for us, both on an equity end and also as a strategic partner for our manufacturing,” explained PPL Managing Director and CEO Suresh Krishnan. This is part of the Indian company’s plan to increase its market share from 12% to 25% by expanding its production capacity from 2.6 million tonnes to 3.7 million tonnes by 2026. This expansion, the same source added, “comes as India grapples with supply chain challenges in phosphatic fertilisers.” Domestic manufacturing capacity stands at 14 million tonnes against a total demand of 20 million tonnes, requiring imports of 6-7 million tonnes annually. Krishnan highlighted that China’s reduced exports have further tightened supply, but Morocco and Saudi Arabia have increased their shipments to fill the gap.
