Though it began as a token on the Ethereum network, it eventually migrated to its own autonomous architecture that remains fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Today, the token's utility includes paying for network gas, participating in staking rewards, and enabling decentralized governance through which holders can vote on technical upgrades and economic changes.

Zcash employs trustless zero-knowledge proofs (Halo) within its Orchard shielded pool to verify transactions without revealing sender, receiver, or amount information.   Users can choose between transparent public transactions and shielded private transactions through Unified Addresses, which work with both types. The network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin, with new blocks mined every 75 seconds and transaction fees typically just a fraction of a cent. Privacy adoption has surged in 2025, with over 30% of total ZEC supply now held in fully shielded pools.  Zcash was created by a group of scientists in 2013 who initially proposed Zerocoin as a privacy extension to Bitcoin before building a standalone protocol. The ecosystem operates with a self-funded development model where block rewards support independent teams through the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a new Coinholder-Controlled Fund.

The network operates as a fork of LuckyCoin, which itself was a fork of Litecoin, using a proof of work consensus mechanism. It employs the Scrypt algorithm to ensure the mining process remains fast and efficient, with new blocks processed every 60 seconds. A unique technical feature is its use of merged mining, allowing miners to secure Dogecoin simultaneously with other Scrypt-based networks like Litecoin.  To keep transaction fees low and the network running indefinitely, Dogecoin features an uncapped supply where new coins are added forever. In a major regulatory milestone in March 2026, a joint SEC and CFTC framework officially classified Dogecoin as a digital commodity, placing it in the same asset category as gold or oil.

In a move that challenges centuries of distorted geography, the AU is backing the "Correct The Map" campaign, advocating for the global adoption of the Equal Earth projection. This modern map design aims to replace the centuries-old Mercator projection, which has long misrepresented Africa's true size and geopolitical significance. Africa covers 30.37 million square kilometres, large enough to fit the United States, China, India, and most of Europe combined. A Map That Shrinks Africa Developed in 1569 by Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator, the Mercator projection was originally designed for maritime navigation. However, its cylindrical design distorts landmasses, particularly near the equator. As a result, Africa appears significantly smaller than it is, about 14 times smaller than it should be. Meanwhile, regions like Greenland and parts of Europe appear disproportionately large.
