$YUM Restarting a small short position. The share price is a bit out of touch with customer traffic being down still and valuation being higher than comparables, considering.

$YUM (Yum! Brands) faces a 12.2% decline in Taco Bell traffic following a Cyclospora outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce, pressuring franchisee economics at a brand that had previously been a strong performer for the company.

$YUM KFC is switching its US soda fountains from PepsiCo to Coca-Cola, ending a run that goes back to Pepsi buying KFC in 1986. Reuters puts KFC at 3,718 US locations. BofA analysts estimate the account at about five hundred million dollars in annual sales, roughly a 3 percent hit to Pepsi Beverages North America concentrate sales. Pepsi keeps Taco Bell though. That renewal runs ten years.

$YUM Closed my short.. probably still going down, but shorting this locked up more of my funds than I had intended. I’ll take the meager profit and move on.

What happens next with Yum’s Taco Bell is the bigger question, the analysts said. The irony: Pepsi owned KFC and Taco Bell for about a decade, before spinning them off in 1997.

KFC, owned by Yum! Brands, is finalizing an agreement to switch its U.S. beverage supplier to Coca-Cola across thousands of restaurants, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deal could be announced soon, with Coca-Cola products potentially entering KFC locations nationwide starting in January. The move would be a significant setback for PepsiCo, which has maintained a long-standing beverage supply relationship with Yum! Brands since the restaurant business was spun off in 1997. With KFC operating 3,718 U.S. restaurants, losing the chain’s fountain beverage business would weaken PepsiCo’s foodservice distribution network and cost it a prominent partner in the quick-service restaurant industry. Investors reacted to the report during Thursday’s trading session, with Yum! Brands shares rising 2.7% and Coca-Cola gaining 0.2%, while PepsiCo fell 0.7%. For Coca-Cola, securing KFC would expand its U.S. $YUM $KO $PEP

$YUM is parked right where three things line up on the weekly chart: a diagonal trendline, a horizontal support zone, and the 200 week moving average. That kind of confluence is exactly where the big money tends to watch for buyers once it gets down here
